Introduction

Sending a text off app allows you to start a direct message conversation with a phone number, instead of a user. When you send your first message, we will prompt you to send an invite to this phone number to sign up. When they create an account using that same phone number, the Calaxy chat convo will change from "a convo with a phone number" to "a convo with the user who signed up with that phone number".

Why might this be useful? Its a quick way to loop in outside friends and get them involved in a common activity quickly (responding to a text inside Calaxy). This becomes especially powerful if your first text to the number is a crypto or collectible transfer, where the recipient needs to sign up in order to receive the crypto or collectible. 🥕

☎️ Texting To An External Phone Number

To text an external phone nuber:

1. Tap the "+" icon in the top right corner of Messenger

2. Tap "New Message"

3. Instead of searching for an existing Calaxy user, type the phone number of the person you want to text

4. In the search results, tap on the prompt to create a new convo with that phone number

5. Compose and send your initial message

6. Calaxy will prompt you to "Send Invite" to the phone number off-app

7. Tap "Send Invite"

8. Calaxy will kick you over to the default chat app on your phone, with a pre-filled message to send to the phone number. This pre-filled message will include a unique invite link that will register their phone number on the account when they sign up

9. Edit the pre-filled message (but don't delete the invite link!) and send the text

10. Now, when the recipient signs up for Calaxy using their phone number, the chat conversation you created in Calaxy will automatically be transformed into a chat conversation with the new user (who used that phone to create the account)

🥷 Pro Tip:

One really powerful way to get your friends on the app, is to pay them back for something by texting them crypto from your wallet (using the Text To External Phone Number technique above). When you initiate a convo with an external phone number by sending crypto or a collectible, the transfer will be pending until your friend creates their account with that same phone number and accept the transfer into their wallet on Calaxy. (each new account comes with a wallet to instantly receive crypto/collectibles).

If I initiate a crypto transfer to an external phone number, and the recipient never signs up, what happens to my transfer?

Transfers that aren't accepted in a chat convo end up timing out and cancelling after a period of time. When this happens, the funds end up remaining in your wallet.

What happens if the recipient accidentally creates an account with their email (instead of phone number)?

In cases where you text an invite link to someone outside Calaxy app, and they sign up with their email instead of phone number, they will need to add their phone number as a secondary login method before the chat conversation you initially started with their phone number will transform to a conversation with the user themselves. We need the phone number tied to the account so we can establish the connection.
