Introduction

Group Chats are DM conversations with 3 people are more. Great for hanging out with your friends, or building a tribe of Superfans. Group chats come with all the standard features you'd expect:

• Group Chat name + Icon

• Member invites

• Banning users

• Permissions

All active group chats live in the Messenger > "Messages" tab. Group chats will show a square icon of the group chat image in the main inbox, and an excerpt of the most recent message in the chat. Group chats build upon features already covered in the Direct Messages article. Refer to that article for the base set of chat features.

🌱 Creating A Group Chat

To create a group chat:

1. Tap the "+" icon in the top right corner of Messenger

2. Tap "Create Group Chat+" from the slide up menu

3. Upload an image for the group chat

4. Give the group chat a name and (optionally) a description

5. Configure member permissions

6. When ready, tap "Create Group Chat" to create the chat

Congrats! You have just created the group chat.

📩 Inviting Others To A Group Chat

When you first create a group chat, it will be empty. You need to invite others:

1. If the chat is empty, tap the "Send Invite" button in the middle of the screen. Otherwise tap the 3-dot options menu in the top right of your group chat, then tap "Invite"

2. Search the username of the user you want to invite

3. When you find them tap the "Send Invite" beside their name

4. An invite will be sent to them and they will get a notification

🙃 Managing Members

If you need to boot someone for being a little too rowdy, or you just want to peep the members of your group chat:

1. Tap the 3-dot options menu in the top right of the group chat

2. Tap "Members" to open the membership list

3. You can search members using the search bar or view the list directly

4. Filter by "All" "Joined" or "Invited" tabs to see who's responded to your invites

5. You can boot any current member by tapping the "Remove" button beside their name

6. And you can cancel the pending invite of anyone who hasn't yet responded by tapping the "Cancel Invite" button beside their name

🎚️ Group Chat Admin

If you want to change the group chat name, icon, description, or any permissions:

1. Tap the 3-dot options menu in the top right of the group chat

2. Tap "Edit Chat" to open the admin panel

3. Make the edits you want and then tap the "Save Changes" button at the bottom

4. Changes (including permissions) will take effect right away

Group Chat FAQ

Is there a limit to how many people can join a group chat?

Nope! Invite as many people as you'd like.

Can I assign any moderators to manage the group chat?

At this point, only the group chat creator can access admin settings and manage the chat. We will be introducing moderator roles at some point in the near future.

Can I paywall or token gate my group chat?

As of right now, group chats cannot be paywalled or token gated. But we are considering introducing these capabilities in the near future.
