Custom Experiences

This article covers the Custom Experience product on the Calaxy platform.

Introduction

Custom Experiences on Calaxy give you true power over how you monetize yourself. Experiences are a curated set of pre-built, branded interactions that are based on one of Calaxy's core service products (like Video Calls).

🧠 Best way to think about Custom Experiences: A branded service product where YOU, not the fan — set the context of the service ahead of time.

How Custom Experiences Work:

Let's say you are a yoga instructor 🧘‍♀️ living in Miami beach 🏖️. You can take the Video Call product and build a catalogue of "Private Yoga Lessons" over video that you deliver live from your phone, on South Beach. Each lesson can have its own title, picture, description (maybe describing the lesson, type of yoga, length of the call), category, and even a movie trailer 🎬 (if you are feeling ambitious).

These yoga lessons display as product cards directly on your profile. On your side of things, Custom Experiences get delivered in the exact same way as you would deliver the core service product the experience is built on. So if the experience is built on the Video Call product, you would deliver it (and get paid) the exact same way you would deliver standard paid video calls.

The key difference is: how things are presented to the fan - Experiences are branded and parameterized by you. With Services on the other hand (like standard Video Calls) — the fan comes to you with an open request that you can choose to accept or decline.

🎟️ Creating & Publishing Custom Experiences

To create and publish a Custom Experience:

  1. From your own profile, tap "Manage My Shop" (or "Setup Shop" if you haven't enable any products yet)

  2. In the Experiences section, tap "+ Add Product"

  3. Set the title and description

  4. Upload a product image or video representing the experience*

  5. Select what type of experience you want to create (eg. Video Call, Shoutout, Special Request etc)

    1. Fill out any additional info/settings that appear based on the type of product your select

  6. Add your experience to a product category you're previously created, or add & assign a new category on the fly

  7. Finally, set a price the Experience in US Dollars

  8. When ready, tap the "Preview Product" to review everything

  9. Make any final edits to the product from the Product Review screen

  10. When you are happy with everything, tap "Publish Product" to publish the experience to your Shop

Congrats! Your Experience will be displayed as a product card directly on your profile. Fans can now buy this experience from you.

*Video trailers take the place of a product image for Custom Experiences. This means that the product card on your profile and product checkout screens will autoplay on mute the movie trailer in place of a static image. This is a more dynamic way to present your Experience to fans (but its not required).

📚 Categorizing Experiences:

You can easily categorize your Experiences into logical groups to make it easier for fans to shop.

To add a category:

  1. In the Experiences section of your Shop Manager, tap "Add Category" pill

  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to add a category to your Custom Experiences section

  3. Once added, you will see the category pill appear in the Experiences section

  4. You can then edit any of your existing Experience products and assign them to this new category

  5. You can also start assigning new Experience products to this category as you create them

To edit or remove a category:

Once you have created at least one category, you will see a little pencil (edit) icon display to the left of the category tabs in the Experiences section of your Shop Manager. Tapping this pencil icon will bring you to the Category Manager where you can easily add, edit or delete categories.

Any Experience product that is not assigned to a category will automatically be assigned to a category called "uncategorized"

🛎️ Receiving & Delivering Custom Experiences

The key thing to know about Custom Experiences is you deliver them in the exact same way you would deliver the service product they are built on. For example, if you are offering a set of "Yoga On The Beach Lessons" with the Video Call service tool, you will deliver all "Yoga On The Beach" experiences in the same way you would deliver standard video calls to fans. The only real difference is the "Yoga On The Beach" experience is defining what's happening during the call - this is what we call a "pre-built interaction".

To complete a Custom Experience:

  1. Go to the Messages > Jobs tab.

  2. Tap on the "Experiences" sub tab

  3. This will list all the "Custom Experience" jobs that have been purchased by fans, that you need to complete.

  4. Each job will be one of the Custom Experiences you are selling in your Shop

  5. Specific requirements to complete the job will depend on the type of experience you have setup.*

  6. Follow the instructions to complete each Job and unlock instant payouts.

*Custom Experiences are standard services products (like Video Calls or Shoutouts) packaged up and branded by you to deliver a set of prebuilt interactions that align with how you want to monetize your business. But under the hood, each experience is just a standard service product, so the specific tasks you need to do in order to "complete" a Custom Experience will depend on what kind of Experience it is. Video Call experiences carry the exact same set of completion requirements as standard Video Calls - where the fan is coming to you with an open request.

Custom Experience FAQs:
What core service products can be selected when creating a Custom Experience?

Custom Experiences can be built on the Video Call, Video Message, Shoutout, And Special Request products. We will be adding more (like Live Events 👀) in the future.

How many Custom Experiences can I setup?

You can setup 100 Custom Experiences and 10 categories to sell in your Shop.

Are the rules for Custom Experiences any different than the standard service products they are built on?

No. All the rules around Custom Experiences are tied directly to the service product they are built on. This means that cancellation rules for Custom Experiences built on the Video Call service, adhere to the standard Video Call service cancellation policies (See the Video Call service FAQ for specifics). The same applies to all all other Experience "types" - they adhere to the same set of rules as their underlying service product (eg. Special Requests or Shoutouts)

Can I change the price of an Experience at any time?

Yes! Absolutely. Anyone that has already purchased the Experience and is actively waiting for delivery won't be affected by the price change, but anyone who buys the Experience after you make the price change, will be quoted the new price at checkout.

What happens if I delete an Experience that some fans have bought and are waiting for delivery?

You can delete an Experience from your Shop at any time. When you do, any active purchases of the Experience will be cancelled, and the buyer will be refunded.

Can Custom Experiences be IRL (In Real Life?)

Yes. Custom Experiences can be real life experiences you deliver to fans in a physical setting, or digital experiences you deliver through Calaxy, or on another app. To do this, you would build a Custom Experience using the Special Request product. All the same rules apply.
